3 Things You Must Do This Summer

Many of us have heard the popular saying by Winston Churchill that “He who fails to plan, plans to fail”. But only a few of us keep that in mind in our daily endeavours, especially in the summer. Many may have great plans for their businesses, careers and even health and wellness, but only a few have specific plans to maximize the summer. Are you one of them?

Are you one of those who look forward to a great summer and then wondered where it went when it has past? Are you one of those who spend time complaining about a short summer instead of savouring every day of it? Are you one of those who appreciate the summer season and yet have no plans in place to make summer feel appreciated?

Well, as your neighbourhood Life Coach, here are some of the most important things that you must do this summer. These five things are critical to the success of whatever plans you may have beyond the summer holidays; in other words, without them, you may have a difficult time finishing strong this year.

1.      Spend quality time with your family. This may be a no brainer, but many people are guilty of it. Before the summer holidays, you were likely very busy with your work, business and other things which you are involved with, but you must slow down now. Frankly, if you have children, especially who are of school age, summer is theirs. Thus, sit down with the family and make a list of what everyone would like to do and then plan to fulfill whatever you can based on time and resources. By the way, do this exercise for next year right after this summer holiday.

2.      Catch up with extended family members and critical relationships. As for me, having travelled extensively this year thus far, speaking at corporations, churches, colleges and communities, I must confess that I haven't been in touch with some of my critical relationships. Thus, while the kids are also trying to keep up with their friends during this summer, I intend to also do the same, without taking away from their time. This is one of the things you must do this summer. Don’t wait until Christmas time to contact grandma, Uncle Paul, Auntie Patricia and the John you grew up with. Who knows, they may be going fishing in the same area as you and your son.

3.      Think deeper than ever about your life. Of course, we are supposed to think deeply of our lives every day, but summertime is when we must do so than ever. This is the time to reflect and identify where you need to improve, to review how far you have come this year, and what you need to change in order to finish it strong. Remember that there are only three months left to the New Year when this summertime ends. Play, but pray harder. Laugh, but think deeply.

If you find these three things challenging, then you did not do enough to plan ahead for the summer by tightening loose ends at work or in business before the holiday rolled in. Summer months are usually slow for businesses, except, of course, those that thrive during the summer. So maximize it to ensure that when the summer period is over, the last leg of this year would be a piece of cake for you.

In addition to these, I have already created a schedule of things I would like to teach my children, things that they must know before heading back to school. My daughter is starting high school next session and my son is heading to grade 5. As I often say in my speaking engagement, whatever has brought you thus far is insufficient to take you to the next level; and this applies to our children as well. I enjoyed biking with my son yesterday and about to do the same today; but every moment with them this summer and always must be considered a teachable moment.

The summer period is meant to be new beginnings for you in the critical areas of your life, like family, relationships and your future. Just like the grass becomes greener and the cloud become clearer in summer, so are we supposed to be this season. And as your neighborhood Life Coach, I am here to help. Even while enjoying the season, we are always available to coach and mentor you. While I have slowed down my international engagements to also do what I have just advised you to do, ensure to book me ahead for your events after the summer period.

May God use this summer period to prepare you for even greater success in the last leg of 2013! May HE protect you and your family as you come together to plan, deliberate, rejuvenate, catch up and have fun this summer and always! Amen! Hey, hearing from you makes my day, so why don't you leave a comment behind to encourage your neighbourhood Life Coach. Thank you!

How to Become a Life Coach

As a Life Coach, one of the questions that I am most commonly asked is how to become a Life Coach. Whether it is in a social gathering, a formal event or TV or radio interviews, I am often confronted with the question of how to become a Life Coach. It seems like everybody would like to be one . . . and we should!

But to become a Life Coach requires a lot more than you think. While there are so many schools/organizations out there that are eager to certify you as one, becoming a true Life Coach is way more than that. It has to do with your heart, your characteristics, and most importantly, your purpose in life. As I wrote in my book, ‘Welcome to Greatness’, “Until we start making the necessary effort to fulfill our life purpose, working diligently towards making the world a better place each day we have the privilege of living in it, we would have unfortunately given up the unique opportunity to live longer than our physical existence. In fact, death wins when we die without having fulfilled our life purpose, without having accomplished our individual reason for being born. If you are yet to discover yours, look deeply within yourself; search your heart, your mind and your soul for those natural talents that you were blessed with, and then start using those talents to make an impact in your home, workplaces and communities. Pray harder for God to open your eyes to your purpose in life and to grant you the wisdom, passion and strength to pursue your purpose in life no matter what”.

What you do in life should never be taken lightly; definitely not when it involves the life of another. To be a Life Coach, you must be willing to consider yourself a student of life. Life Coaching is actually less about coaching and more about learning. It is less about talking and more about listening. How open is your heart? How humble are you? How determined are you to help others overcome their life challenges? How determined are you to be better? Have you ever had a Life Coach? Can we give what we don't have? What is the driving force behind your motivation to become a Life Coach? How coachable are you?

Education, exposure and experience position you for successful outcomes as a Life Coach, but they are not the main prerequisite for becoming a Life Coach. The main prerequisite is the humble willingness to serve with integrity; the selfless desire to help others become greater than you are. According to the International Coaching Federation, the largest Coach Credentialing body in the world, of which we are a member, “Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership that is designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives.

A coach helps people to improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives and businesses. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.”

At The Exhortation, we believe that a Life, Business or Executive Coach is someone who consistently pursues the knowledge and experiences that is necessary to take his or her life and the lives of others to the greater heights. He or she consistently demonstrates contagious passion for personal development, abounding empathy for undesirable human situations, and unabashed determination to assist the people who are willing to take their lives and businesses to the next level. This is what we pride ourselves in, what you will experience with us during your Coaching Program.

At The Exhortation Global Institute of Life and Business Strategies, we have been fortunate enough to coach many people all over the worldwide on varieties of life and business matters. We have coached Executives, Entrepreneurs, Politicians, Athletes, Community and Religious Leaders, University and High School Students, and diverse groups of men, women and youths. However, we are very selective about who we train as a Life Coach. In fact, we would only train those who have successfully completed one of our coaching programs. Can you really coach someone when you have never been coached?

As you consider this honourable desire whether to become a Life Coach or not, ask yourself many questions. Question your willingness and ability to ensure they are void of any selfish or arrogant motive, for until you are certain that this is the purpose which God created you for, based on your level of faith, passion, humility, integrity and diligence, do not venture into it. It is like becoming a medical doctor because of the prestige and financial reward even when you have no passion for it. You stand to lead many astray.

If you need help in exploring this possibility, then seize the opportunity to contact us and we would gladly work with you to make the right decision and then follow through with it. In the words of Og Mandino, I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply all my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.”

Are you willing to apply all your efforts to become the greatest servant of all? Then Welcome to Greatness!!

Yes You Can

We live in a world where quitting is now a widely acceptable option. Everyday, people quit the goals they spent years dreaming about when the accomplishment may just be around the corner. People quit schools without graduating, quit their jobs without another job offer in hand, and quit their weight-loss program without attaining the healthier body weight that they set out to achieve.

Even sadder, and more rampant than ever, people quit their marriage without seeking the counselling and coaching that is required to make it work. And despite the irrefutable fact that the future state of our world depends on the mindset of today’s children, the number of parents quitting their privileged, God-given responsibilities for the pursuit of very selfish personal objectives continue to climb astronomically!

So how are you persevering in your responsibilities and objectives? How well are you coping with the norms of life that causes others to quit? How determined are you to achieve that goal, make that thing happen, build that relationship, settle that quarrel, or make that difference that your heart truly desires?

While it may sometimes create an empty satisfaction, quitting actually create long-lasting regrets that will slowly erode your self-esteem. Without even knowing it, you become defensive even at the slightest challenge. Quitters are often lonely, often dejected, often unhappy, and either depressed or passionate about nothing that really matters. Quitters struggle to wake up in the morning, barely say hello to others, never willing to work wholeheartedly and consistently thinking of themselves.

From my life coaching experience, I learnt that the top three character traits which eventually cause people to quit are procrastination, selfishness and pride. Thus, if you perceive these traits in you or someone else have indicated that you have them, make haste now – seek help. We are here for you.

Remember, we were all made in the image and likeness of God. In us lies the same willingness and determination that have created heroes and heroines out of ordinary people. Yes You Can!
